Privacy policy / Updated 10 October 2026
Your information.
Handled plainly.
The Department's paperwork is satirical. This privacy policy is practical.
This policy covers The Art of Appearing Busy at Work website, appearbusy.work reception, the Busyness Audit, archived Field Notes and Department Newsletter, prepared by 2 SPICY BRAINS under the Department of Optics & Appearances identity.
You can take the Audit and receive your result without giving us an email address. Individual answers stay in the current browser page. We record anonymous usage and result totals to understand how the assessment works.
Subscribing is a separate choice. Zoho Campaigns handles new signup requests, email confirmation and subscription records. We retain existing MailerLite records while completing the transition. You can unsubscribe at any time.
01 / The Busyness Audit
The Audit calculates your result in your browser. Individual answers are not sent to our server or our email provider. Reloading the page clears the assessment. Our own WordPress reporting records event times, page visits, assessment starts, question numbers viewed, completion totals, result classifications and share actions. It does not store which answers you selected.
Reporting uses a randomly generated identifier held only in the current page’s memory and stored on the server as a protected hash. It is not an account or a persistent browser identifier. Owner checks and public visitor events are labelled separately. We do not attach email addresses, names, IP addresses or WordPress user IDs to these reporting records. A source label is limited to broad categories such as direct visits or email; full referring URLs are not stored. Short-lived, protected rate-limit keys help prevent automated abuse; this component does not store raw IP addresses. Hosting services still process the technical logs described below.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable this usage reporting in the browser. Signup request counts mean a confirmation was requested; they do not mean the person confirmed a subscription. We retain anonymous records for usage analysis. Results are not sent to our email provider or linked to mailing-list records.
The Classification Record is created in your browser. Downloading it does not post it publicly. If you choose to share it on another service, that service's privacy rules apply.
The Audit is satire, not an employment assessment or a scientific diagnostic.
02 / Archived Field Notes
Field Notes intake is closed. Existing content and records remain private.
Filing a Field Note sends the observation, category, attribution choice, any chosen display name, and the publication and safety declarations to a private WordPress moderation queue. Work setting, country or broad region, and follow-up email are optional. We keep a receipt reference, submission time, permission version, edited copy and review notes. Do not include names of colleagues, employers, clients, workplace addresses, confidential details or allegations about identifiable people or organisations.
Nothing auto-publishes. Selected notes may be edited or combined to protect anonymity and used under the publication permission you give. Your follow-up email is never published and is not automatically added to the mailing list. The optional Department Newsletter choice opens a separate signup step; that form requires its own consent and email confirmation.
Rejected or unused submissions are due for deletion within 90 days, unless a documented safety reason requires retention. Published material and its permission records are retained while the material remains in use. Follow-up email is retained only while needed to clarify a submission, unless you separately subscribe. Contact us using your receipt reference if you need to ask about a note.
03 / Department Newsletter
If you subscribe, we use your email address to send the Department Newsletter, including publication updates and occasional memos. Entering your address and requesting circulation starts signup; you must then confirm by email. No separate consent checkbox is required.
Zoho Campaigns processes your email address, signup source and list membership, subscription and confirmation status and times, delivery and unsubscribe history, and technical request information such as IP address and browser details. These records help us manage consent, deliver correspondence, prevent misuse and honour opt-outs.
Email open tracking is disabled in the current Zoho account. Email link tracking is enabled. Zoho also records signup form visits and interactions; we have not enabled its optional custom beacon tracking. We do not sell or rent our mailing list.
Existing MailerLite subscriber records and consent history are retained during the transition, including records needed to honour opt-outs. We will reconcile them before retiring that service.
If you email us, we use your address and message to respond and handle your request.
04 / Website services & cookies
Our WordPress website is hosted by Bluehost. Hosting and security services process technical request information, including IP addresses, browser details, requested pages and access times, to deliver and protect the site.
The signup form loads resources from Zoho Campaigns and uses Google reCAPTCHA to prevent automated abuse. Fonts load from Google Fonts. Those providers receive the technical information needed to serve these resources when the page loads, even if you do not subscribe.
WordPress uses cookies for administrator login. Zoho’s form services and Google reCAPTCHA may use cookies or browser storage and process technical information to support signup and prevent automated abuse. You can manage cookies and site storage in your browser; blocking required resources can stop signup from working.
If you allow optional analytics, Google Analytics measures visits and navigation across theartofappearingbusyatwork.com and appearbusy.work using a shared property. It records reception-entry clicks, book-retailer clicks when available, Audit starts and completions, and successful signup requests. These events do not contain email addresses, individual Audit answers, scores or classifications. A signup request is not a confirmed subscription; retailer clicks are not verified purchases.
Analytics cookies can recognise a browser across the two domains when you follow a link. Google receives technical request information and processes data internationally. Optional analytics starts only after permission on each domain. You can reject analytics, change your choice using Analytics choices, or clear site storage. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control disable optional analytics. Administrator and staging visits are excluded. Cross-domain consent is not automatically shared.
Our own WordPress reporting remains separate from Google Analytics and our email provider. It does not add analytics cookies or share assessment records with Google. Short-lived protected counters help limit repeated requests.
05 / Providers & overseas processing
We use Zoho Campaigns for new subscriptions and email delivery, retain MailerLite during the subscription transition, use Bluehost for website hosting and our domain mailbox, and Google for fonts and reCAPTCHA. Information is shared with these services to provide the functions described above, and with authorities if disclosure is required by law.
Our Zoho organization uses its Australian data centre service. Providers can still process information internationally for operations and support; this is not a promise that every service or data transfer stays in Australia. MailerLite says its subscriber data storage centre is in the European Union. Bluehost’s parent, Newfold Digital, identifies processing in the United States, India and the Philippines. Google operates servers in multiple countries.

06 / Keeping your information
We keep active subscription details to operate the mailing list. Unsubscribing stops the Department Newsletter; it does not automatically erase the consent and opt-out history. MailerLite retains an unsubscribed record so your address remains excluded from active circulation.
We retain correspondence and relevant records while needed to answer requests, manage consent, resolve issues and meet applicable obligations. Hosting logs and backup copies follow the providers' retention arrangements. Contact us if you want information deleted; we will explain any record that needs to be retained.
The website uses HTTPS, and subscription administration requires account access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
07 / Your choices & requests
Use the unsubscribe link in the Department Newsletter to leave the mailing list. You can also email us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we hold about you, or to withdraw your email consent.
We may need to verify that the request relates to your information. Please do not send passwords or identity documents unless we have explained why specific information is needed. We will review your request and explain the outcome.
